(4x2 -2x +5 )/(x+2) = ?

For the systhetic division, x = -2.

-2 l 4      -2       5

    l         -8      20

    l-----------------

      4    -10      25          therefore, Quotient  = 4x -10, and Remnent = 25.

As a result, (4x2 -2x +5 )/(x+2) = (4x -10) + 25/(x+2).

I hope this will help.

I am sorry to Robert J.

I am sure that he is wonderful and very quick math expert.

He made a tiny little mistake in his solution. Best wishes.

Sung's answer is correct and well presented. The main things to remember in performing synthetic division are to reverse the sign of the divisor (e.g., use -2 instead of +2), and ADD each column rather than subtracting, as you would do with long division.

In synthetic division, the divisor is the root of x+2 = 0, which is -2.

-2 | 4 -2 5

.........-8 20

----------------

......4 -10| 25

Answer: (4x^2-2x+5)/(x+2) = (4x-10) + 25/(x+2)

I had a sign copied wrong. Thank Sung Taee for letting me know.
