2x2 system of equations?

attempted this problem, I keep getting different results. not sure which right.

3 x - 9 y equals 12

2 x - 6 y equals 8

OBSERVE that (2/3) times the first equation gives the second equation. Therefore this is a dependent system--one line containing infinitely many points. (Solve either equation for y to get slope-intercept form & graph the line...that's the solution.)

These are two different equations of the same line. Both equations can be simplified down to

 

x - 3y = 4

 

or

 

y = 1/3x - 4/3

 

There are infinite solutions because they are the same line.

3x -9y=12  ..... divide whole equation with 3 ........ x-3y=4

 

2x-6y=8     .....divide whole equation with 2 .......x-3y=4

 

both equations are same.

It means these are equation of same line.

 

So answer is Infinite solution
