Translate to a system of equations but do not solve.

The perimeter of a standard tennis court when used for doubles play is 288ft. The width is 22 ft less than the length. Find the dimensions.

would it be w=l-22
                2l+2w=288?

You can also divide the first equation by 2 to obtain

w + l = 144   ---> simpler version of the first equation

it gave me 3 to pick from.

1. w=22-l
2l+2w=288

2.w=l-22
2l+2w=288

3.w-l=22
2l+2w=228

 I am confused on which one to pick.

1. Is incorrect. It implies w + l = 22.
2. Is correct.
3. Is Incorrect. It states the width is larger than the length.
