Translate to a system of equations but do not solve.

The perimeter of a standard tennis court when used for doubles play is 288ft. The width is 22 ft less than the length. Find the dimensions.

You can also divide the first equation by 2 to obtain
 
w + l = 144   ---> simpler version of the first equation

 I am confused on which one to pick.
