Suppose a lie detector test has the following properties.If the suspect is telling the truth,the lie detector will correct say so with probability 0.85.if the suspect is lying ,it will correctly identify this with probability 0.99.if 95% of the people are telling thr truth .find the probability that the person is actually lying when the test says that he or she is lying?

As I see this situation,

 

95% of the people tested tell the truth

 

the accuracy of the machine in this case is 85%

 

So, the % based on the machine accuracy is 0.95 x 0.85 = 0.8075 = 80.75%

 

The machine accuracy to detect lying is 99%, so the overall accuracy will be 0.8075 x 0.99 = 0.799 ≅ 79.9%
