You may convert Standard Format to slope-intercept format (y=mx+b where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept) because parallel lines have the same slope. Or, you may realize that the slope is (-A/B). That means that the parallel line has the equation:
5x + 2y = D and we need a point to determine D [the problem gives us (-2,4) ].
5(-2) + 2(4) = D
-10 + 8 = D
-2 = D
The equation of the parallel line, in Standard Form, is: 5x + 2y = -2
