In chemistry and physics, Dalton's law states that in a mixture of non-reacting gases, the total pressure exerted is equal to the sum of the partial pressures of the individual gases. This empirical law was observed by John Dalton in 1801.
In other words, when a gas is pumped into an enclosed space, it will shrink to fit into that space, but the pressure that the gas puts on the container will increase.
