3x=-9

x=-3

find the mean of the three integers; this will be the middle integer

a + b + c = -9

 

where a is the first number

where b = a +/- 1 => given that the number is negative b = a - 1

where c = a +/- 2 => given that the number is negative c = a - 2

 

Therefore a + (a - 1) + (a - 2) = -9 => 3a - 3 = -9 => 3a = -6 => a = -2

 

From this we can conclude that b = -3 and c = - 4

 

Therefore we have three consecutive number = -9
