I am reading the problem as Jim was hiking on a trail and, after walking 4/3 of a mile, he found that he was only 5/8 of the way to the end of the trail. How long is the trail?
The trail being 1 (whole) the 5/8 part of the trail is = 4/3 of a mile
thus the whole trail must be = [4/3]/[5/8] of a mile
=[4*8]/[3*5] of a mile
= 32/15 of a mile
= 2 miles and 2/15 of a mile
