Let's convert both numbers into decimals.

3/4=0.750

3/8=0.375

 

 0.750

--0.375

 

This is

0.750

+0.375

1.125

 

SECOND...

Let's convert 3/4 into ?/8...

(3/4)(x/x)

If we multiply (4)(2) we produce 8.

Therefore...

(3/4)(2/2)=6/8

 

The equation is now...

(6/8)-(-3/8)

(6/8)+(3/8)=9/8 or 1 1/8
