Hi, I don't know where I'm going wrong with this equation but I'm pretty sure I missed some minor step in solving it.

The equation is : 2x/(x-3) = 10/(x+1) — (7x-27)/(x-3)

Your first step should be to simplify it by gathering all the terms with a common denominator together.

 

2x/(x - 3)  + (7x - 27)/(x - 3) = 10/(x + 1)

 

(9x - 27)/(x - 3) = 10/(x + 1)

 

9 = 10/(x + 1)

9x + 9 = 10

9x = 1

x = 1/9
