Given that 2a = 6b, find the ratio of a to b in simplest form.

The ratio of a to b can be written as  a:b   or as   a/b.

 

Given:

     2a = 6b

      2a/b = 6         [divide both sides by b]

      a/b = 3/1        [divide both sides by 2]

 

The ratio of a:b is 3:1.        [note that 2a = 6b]
