x²-3x  *    x+1

-------      -------

2x²-5x-3     x

 

 

First we need to factor the numerator and denominator in the 1st term

 

x(x-3)           *     (x+1)
------------         -------
(x-3)(2x-1)             x

 

 

Now cancel factors

both the x in the top and bottom and the factor (x-3) in the numerator and denominator.

 

1               (x+1)
------    *  -------
(2x-1)          1

 

this leaves

 

x+1

----

2x-1

 

That's the answer
