Since the equation is factored, and the product of the factored expressions is 0,  we can use the zero-product property to solve for the variable.  If you are multiplying items and the result is zero, then 1 of those items has to be equal to 0.

 

SOLUTION 1:

 

  Y = 0

 

SOLUTION 2:

 

  7Y - 3 = 0

       7Y = -3

         Y = -3/7

 

SOLUTION 3:

 

  5Y - 1 = 0

       5Y = 1

         Y = 1/5
