asked 02/23/16How many gummy bears of each color are in the bin after your purchase?
A bin at a candy store contains 1800 gummy bears. The bin only contains three colors, red,green,and yellow with 65% being red and 15% being green. You walk into the stroe and purchase only red gummy bears out of the bin. Now, only 55% of the gummy bears are red.How many gummy bears of each color are in the bin after your purchase?

Megan, let's do this!
If 65% are red, 1800(.65) = 1170 red gummy bears.
1800(.15) = 270 green gummy bears.
1800 - (1170 + 270) = 360 yellow gummy bears.
Now, 270 + 360 = 630 gummy bears are not red.
If we take only red and what's left is 55% of the new total, then the 630 not red gummy bears must make up the other 45%, right?
Going back to the original formula, if we say x = the total after some are taken, then...
.45x = 630
x = 1400
1400 - 630 = 770 red gummy bears left
Sooooo, there are now 770 red, 270 green and 360 yellow.
Hope this helps!
