Hi Tierney,
Reflection of Q(-3, 5) over the y-axis is just the image of the point Q. Just like you stand in front of a mirror your distance remains the same as your image distance, anything behind the mirror is counted in negatives so the x value remains the same but the sign is changed.
Q(-3, 5) -------->Q'(3, 5)
