system of equations

I have to use the substiution method.

I think I'm suppose to use both sides, combine like terms, etc.  I forgot my notebook and I don't remember how to do this.  Please help.  

4x+2y=6

y=5x-4

Substitute the second equation into the first equation.  This will make the first equation in terms of x.

 

4x + 2(5x - 4) = 6

 

Solve for x from this equation.  Once you have your x value, substitute it into the second equation to solve for y.
