a rectangle is 5 times as long as it is wide. if the area is 125 square feet, find its perimeter.

A=125
l=5x(w)
p=?
w=l/5

Throw the perimeter equation in and you're cooking with gas!
 
P = 2L + 2W
 
A = LW = 125
 
L = 5W
 
Substitute the third equation into the second.
 
A = 5W(W) = 125
 
5W2 = 125
 
W2 = 25
 
W = 5 ft
 
L = 5W = 5(5) = 25 ft
 
 
P = 2L + 2W = 2(25) + 2(5)
 
P = 60 ft
