The equation of line CD is y = 3x − 3. Write an equation of a line perpendicular to line CD in slope-intercept form that contains point (3, 1). y = 3x + 0. I have been trying to help my daughter with this question and I cannot figure out how in the world to do it. I took geo in high school but that was sooo long ago. Lol! PLease help.. Thanks

The slope of the line for y = 3x - 3 is 3. The slope of the line perpendicular is -1/3.

 

y = -x/3 + b

1 = -3/3 + b                substitute values of point

1 = -1 + b                   reduce

2 = b                           add one to both sides

 

y = -x/3 + 2
