if x = 47 in this case, then substitute that input into the equation and solve for y (the output).  y = 0.033(47)² - 2.5(47) + 62.57

 

y = 0.033(2209) - 2.5(47) + 62.57

 

y = 72.897 - 117.5 + 62.57

 

y = 17.967

 

so, 18 people per thousand would be expected to die in that country that are 47 years old.
