             How about       3    =    X

                                    8             16   Now CROSS MULTIPLY  the 8  times X   giving 8X =

                                                           Next Multiply 3 times 16  = 48                      

 

We have:   8x = 48            Divide both sides by 8

                  8       8           The Eights on the X side cancel out....we have                 

 

                  X  =  6
