Six workers are hired to seed a field by hand. Each is given a plot which is 5x10 feet in size. What is the total area of the field?

Step One: Find the total area for one field.

The area of one plot is (length)x(width). 

Since 5x10=50, we can conclude that one plot of land has an area of 50 ft².

Step Two: Find the total area of the field.

Since we know that there are six workers, each given one plot per person, we can do the following:

(6)x(the are of one plot of land)=the total area

(6)x(50)=the total area

300 =the total area

∴ The total area of the field is 300ft².

The area of the individual plot of land given to each worker is 50 square feet (5' x 10')

Since there are 6 workers, the total area is

 

50 x 6 = 300 sq ft.
