shade in 1/3 of the sqaures but i only six

Question

there has a box with six sqaures in it and the problem is askng me to shade in 1/3 but the denominator of the fraction is 3 so how do i shade in 1/3 when i have six ????

Shade 1/3 can mean for every 3 shade in 1.

6 = 3 + 3, there are two 3's, so 2 boxes are shaded.
