First find g(-8). This means that in g(x) plug replace every x you see with a -8.

 

g(x) = x + 3       so

 

g(-8) = -8 + 3 = -5

 

 

To find f(g(-8)) we note that we've just found g(-8) to be -5. This means that f(g(-8)) is the same thing as f(-5).

 

Do the same thing we did for g(-8) to find f(-5):

 

f(x) = x - 5        so

 

f(-5) = ...?
