x% can be written one of two ways, x/100 or .01x.  Since the rest of the problem uses fractions, I am going to go with x/100.

 

So, directly translating the sentence:

(x/100)*y = (4/5)(80), which is the same as

(xy)/(100) = 64. Now, multiply both sides by 100 to get

xy = 6400

 

Since xy is what we are looking for, we are done.  Don't need to know x or y separately.

 

Ans: xy=6400
