This is not an example of an inverse variation. It is neither a direct nor an inverse variation.

In y = 5/(x-8)
y varies INVERSELY with (x-8)

This IS an inverse variation.  The
question did not ask if y varies
inversely with x... It iasked if this
was an inverse, direct or other
operation.

My apologies to Mark and Bill.
Strictly speaking, to be an inverse
variation, x and y must scale up
or down by the inverse amount...
i.e., When y doubles, x is cut in
half, ..etc.  While this question is
poorly worded I must say that
Mark and Bill are technically
correct.
