I hope your class deals with graphing functions on your calculator, because that is really the only way to solve this quickly.
In your graphing calculator, set y1 = e^x and y2 = 5 - 2x
Plot them, then use the "intersect" function to the find the x value where they intersect. You should get 1.0587.
This may seem like a cheap trick, but it is the only way to do it. The idea behind this is that if one side (e^x) is equal to the other side (5-2x), then they must have the same y value at the same x value.
