The first part "poly" comes from old greek and just means "many" which in math we usually take to mean more than two.

 

"nomial" just means "names".

 

So in math a polynomial is an expression that has at least two terms But only uses operations of addition, subtraction and multiplication and non-negative integer exponents.

 

So in your case, you have two terms:

6x^0.6     and    6x

since the first term uses a decimal exponent it doesn't fit the definition of polynomial.

The given function is not polynomial function, because one exponent is decimal number!!!! 

A polynomial in a single variable can be written in the form 

a_n xⁿ + a_n-1 x^n-1 + ... + a₂ x² + a₁ x + a₀ ,

where the leading coefficient a_n ≠ 0. 

By definition, a polynomial is an expression consisting of variables and constant coefficients, using only the operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and  the non-negative integer exponents. Functions containing other operations, such as square roots, are not polynomials. An example of a polynomial with a single variable x is

3x² - 5x + 4
