Bridget, let's start by making sure we understand the word "Polynomial". Do you know what it actually means?
The first part "poly" comes from old greek and just means "many" which in math we usually take to mean more than two.
"nomial" just means "names".
So in math a polynomial is an expression that has at least two terms But only uses operations of addition, subtraction and multiplication and non-negative integer exponents.
So in your case, you have two terms:
6x^0.6 and 6x
since the first term uses a decimal exponent it doesn't fit the definition of polynomial.
Does that make sense?
If not and you have more questions, let me know.
Thanks
Paul
