f(x) = 8x - 9x² represents a polynomial with two terms 8x and -9x². This polynomial is therefore a binomial because it has two terms. The degree of this polynomial will be the largest exponent of the variable x, which is 2.

f(x) = 8x-9x²

The number with the exponential should be represented first...

f(x)=-9x²+8x

For the FOIL, we know that...

LAST...one number must be 0.

FIRST...(-3)(3) or (3)(-3) or (-9)(1) or (9)(-1) or (1)(-9) or (-1)(9)

INNER and OUTER...must add-up to 8x.  Because the LAST includes 0, this is (8)(0) or (0)(8)

 

f(x)=(-9x+8)(x+0)

 

Let's FOIL...

FIRST...(-9x)(x)=-9x²

OUTER...(-9x)(0)=0

INNER...(8)(x)=8x

LAST...(8)(0)
