If john purchased 1/4 gallon of juice, then poured equally into 6 glasses.  How much is one glass?

Step One: Since we know that 1/4 gallon poured into 6 different glasses, we can say that 

one fourth is divided by 6.

Step Two: Translating this into a mathematical equation: 

(1/4)/6=the amount of juice in one glass. We can solve by using the reciprocal: 

(1/4)*(1/6)=the amount of juice in one glass

1/24=the amount of juice in one glass 

∴There is 1/24 gallon in each glass.

so each glass has 1/24 gallon.
