Question

Ann has 5026 grams of flour in a canister. She bought a 4,157 gram bag of flour. She poured some flour from the bag to the canister. As a result, the mass of the flour in the canister is now twice the mass of the flour left in the bag. How much flour is in the bag now ?

5026 + 4157 = 9183

What we have is a 2:1 ratio, since there's two times the flour in the canister to what's in the bag. This also means there are three units, so:

 

9183 ÷ 3 = 3061

So each unit weights 3061

 

3061 * 2 = 6122

3061 * 1 = 3061

 

So there's 6122 grams in the canister and 3061 left in the bag.
