in order to get half of 2/3 do I divide by 2 or 1/2?

in general when I want to find the half of something do I divide by 2 or 1/2? Why?

The key word is "of" which should tell you to multiply

 

so half of 2/3 is 

 

(1/2) * (2/3) = 2/6 = 1/3

 

essentially you're right when you say you're dividing by 2 because you're multiplying by 1/2
