I suppose s= the side of a square figure so

A_square= s * s = s²

also

since a square is really two right triangles together when a diagonal is drawn then

the area of one triangle is

A_triangle = 1/2bh where b=the base and h= the height

so the area of the square is

A_sqare = 2*(1/2)bh = bh
