Hi Mehak, let x be Carol's current age. Then, Carol's age last year is x - 1.
Use the equation: x + (x - 1) = 27, to find the value of x or Carol's current age.
Remove the parenthesis gives:
x + x - 1 = 27
2x - 1 = 27
Add 1 to both sizes of the equation gives:
2x = 28
Divide both sides by 2 gives:
x = 14, or Carol's current age.
