Applying SImple Math to Everyday Life Activities
We have shirts in different sizes. The only thing is that we don't know how many shirts in total.
Let x = the number of shirts in total
Let 0.65x = number of medium
Let 0.40(0.65x) = number of small
We can set the equation to represent the total number of shirts.
0.65x + 0.40(0.65x) + 450 = x
Solve for x.
0.65x + 0.26x + 450 = x
Subtract x and subtract 450 on both sides of equation.
-0.09x = -450
Divide both sides of equation by -0.09
x = 5000
She is ordering 5000 shirts.
