Convert 0.0420 lbs/ft^3 to g/L? Chemistry conversion? Check my work??

Here are the conversion factors.. (1lb = 454 g, 1 ft = 12 in, 1 in = 2.54 cm, 1cm^3 = 1mL)

 

 

0.0420 lbs/ft^3 (454g/1lb)(1^3 ft^3/12^3 in^3)(1^3 in ^3/2.54^3 cm^3)(1^3 cm^3/ 1^3 ml^3)(1^3 ml^3 / (10^-3)^3 L^3)

 

= 673380.065 L?????

 

AM I WAY OFF?? If so, please let me know so I can get better at these conversions. :) Also, I need to do this to the correct number of sig figs. In that case, would the correct answer be 67300 L /or/ 6.73 x 10^5 L??

1ft3 = 28.3 L

 

so keeping units

 

0.0420 lbs/ft3  * 454g/lb *  (1ft3 / 28.3 L)

 

= 0.6737 L

 

so  you have the right number - but are off in the order of magnitutde

 

Think about it - it's less than a pound per cubic foot - so it's not going to be 6 x10^5 g/L

 

I think  you messed up with the cm3 to ml

 

1cm3 = 1ml  (the ml is not cubed anymore)

 

 

 

 

(from the density equation  of water having a density of 1)
