How is it that sec(pi/4)=sqrt(2) when sec(pi/4)=1/cos(pi/4)=1/sqrt(2)/2=2/sqrt(2)?

The x-coordinate or cosine for 45º or π/4 on a unit circle is sqrt(2)/2.

Thank u, Edward. Denominators shouldn't contain radicals. The denominator should have only rational (fractional or whole #'s) values.

Do not make it a rigid rule that denominators should not contain radicals. It is perfectly acceptable at the college level in Math and Physics to accept 1/sqrt (2).  At the high school level, it makes sense for students to know how to rationalize a denominator. In college, math professors don't care.
