Because sqrt(2) and 2/sqrt(2) are the same. You can see this by rationalizing the denominator of 2/sqrt(2) to get
[2/sqrt(2)]*[sqrt(2)/sqrt(2)] = 2*sqrt(2)/2 = sqrt(2)

Do not make it a rigid rule that denominators should not contain radicals. It is perfectly acceptable at the college level in Math and Physics to accept 1/sqrt (2). At the high school level, it makes sense for students to know how to rationalize a denominator. In college, math professors don't care.
