If two angles form a linear pair, then the sum of the degree measures of the angles is 180°.

 

Let x = measure of the smaller angle

 

Then, 2x = measure of the other angle.

 

So, x + 2x = 180°

 

           3x = 180°

 

            x = 60°

 

The measures of the angles are 60° and 120°.

A "linear pair" means that adjacent angles (those that are next to each other) form a line.  Therefore, their sum is 180°.
