a school system is buying new computers. They buy desktop computers costing $1000 per unit, and notebook computers costing $1200 per unit. the total cost of the computers cannot exceed $80,000. write an inequality that describes this situation. Graph the inequality.

Call the desktops x and the notebooks y.  1000x + 1200y ≤ 80,000.

 

Easiest way to graph is to simply set x as 0 and figure out what your y would be -- that's one point.  Then set y as 0 and figure out what x would be.  That's your second point.  Graph your line.

I agree with Callie. You generate the points (0,66 2/3) and (80,0) and that defines the line. It would be important that in the real world you cannot buy negative numbers of computers so the solution set would be entirely contained in the first quadrant.
