The circumference of a circle is 2pi. Half a circle therefore is pi. A quarter of a circle is pi/2 which measures 90 degrees. The sine of 90, or pi divided by 2, is 1, which inadvertantly can also be the distance from the center of the circle to any point on the line of circumference. One inch, one meter, one armlength, one radius (r), or one 'distance' in whatever measure you are comfortable working with.
Velocity and torque differ. Velocity is a vector quantity, with speed and direction. Torque is a force acting upon a point or a series of points.
