So I have an logarithm I can't get, it says log 5x-1=3... Does that mean log(5x-1)=3 or log(5x)-1=3

answer and steps pls!!!!!!!!!!!!!! long5x-1=3

log5x - 1 = 3
 
log5x      = 4
 
So I guess that answers it.
 
5x =  10^4

If you need to solve for x...
5x=10^4
5x=10,000
x=10,000/5
x=2000
check:
log(base 10)(5*2000)=4
log(base 10)(10,000)=4
log(base 10)(10^4)=4
4=4
