Jacqui is 40 feet from house. A squirrel is sitting on top of her house, which is 20 feet high. What is the angle from her feet to the top of her house? (Round to the nearest degree)

Draw a diagram that represents the house, the squirrel on top of the house, and Jacqui who is standing 40 ft from her house at ground level.  If we draw it correctly, we will get a right triangle, with 20 ft and 40 ft as the legs of the triangle.  We want the bottom angle.

 

θ = tan^-1(height / distance from house)

 

θ = tan^-1(20 ft / 40 ft)

 

θ = tan^-1(1/2)

 

θ = 27 degrees
