I need help with his ASAP!!!

 

Question: Janie has three children. She bought two goldfish and one fish bowl for each child. Each fish cost x dollars. Each fish bowl cost y dollars. Draw the area model for the algebraic expression to determine how much Janie speant.

J = the amount Janie spent.

 

She has three children and bought them all the same thing.

 

I left the 3 outside of the parenthesis... the 2x signifies the two goldfish times the cost (x) and the y signifies the one bowl times the cost (y). 

 

3(2x+y)= J

3 children , and each had 2 gold fish and a fish bowl, so she bought a total of 6 gold fish and 3 bowls.

cost of each gold fish =x so total cost = 6x

cost of each fish bowl = y, so total cost = 3y

so she spent a total of 6x+3y....simplifying it we get, 3(2x+y)
