 For the figure, I started in left corner and moved around the triangle which is labeled AEC.  AE||BD.  Altiitude is divided into ED = 2, and DC = 3.  AC is divided into AB = 6 and BC = x.  Need to solve for x.

Since AE // BD, we can build up a proportion:

 

ED/DC = AB/BC.

 

Since ED = 2, DC = 3, AB = 6, it is easy to get

 

BC = (6/2)*3 = 9
