What is 1/3 times pi times 25 times 12? Im doing my math homework and i don't really get it... :/

What if you write it like this:

pi * 25 * 12

        3

When you multiply by 1/3 it is the same as dividing by 3.  Since multiplication and division are on the same level in Order of Operations, you can see that 12/3  = 4.  So the problem becomes:

pi * 25 * 4 = pi * 100 which is approx 314 since pi is approximately 3.14.  Check to see how many decimals you need to round to in your answer.

Sometimes when math problems come in words instead of numbers, it gets conusing. Try re-writing the problem with numbers.

1/3 times pi is the same as (1/3π)

then multiply that by (25*12).

So, your problem is (1/3π)(25*12).

Pi is not an exact number, so your answer will depend on whether you are instructed in the homework or by your teacher to estimate or provide an exact answer.

Estimated Answer: (1/3*3.14)(25*12) = (1.046666667)(300) = 314.0000001

Exact Answer: (1/3π)(25*12) = 1/3π(300) = 100π
