Lines that are parallel have the same slope or steepness so find the slope of the original line and you will know the slope of the new line. If you write your line in slope intercept form which is y=mx+b, the m is your slope. Rearrange your original equation by solving for y. USE inverse operations when going to the other side of an equal sign. Isolate your y by not moving it. Subtract 9x from both sides of the equation 1st.
9x + 4y=7
-9x -9x subtract 9x from both sides
4y=-9x+7 rewrite equation and now divide everything by 4 to isolate your y
4 4 4
y=-9/4x + 7/4 your m (slope) is -9/4 so your new line's slope is -9/4 as well. ANSWER: -9/4
