Steel Structures Tension Design (LFRD METHOD AISC)

Tension Forces Calculated previously:

USE THE LFRD METHOD

  1. Using the tension forces calculated in the previous step, select a member size for all truss tension Members (One member size that works for all truss members).
  2. Calculations for the design of all tension members in the truss.
  3. Diagram showing the truss and the member sizes selected for all of the truss members.
  4. You may use any common structural shape.
  5. Assume Ae = 0.75Ag
  6. Using the forces previously calculated; design the compression members of the truss.
  7. Assume all members are pin connected (K=1.0)
  8. Assume members are only braced at the support.
  9. Use wide flange sections.

Material Specifications:

  1. A992 for all wide flange sections
  2. A36 for all angles, channels
