 I think the best way to talk about teach literature that is controversial is to talk about the controversy. It's important for students to read literature - but it's also important for them to try to understand literature from different perspectives. When studying literature, understanding the author's intent and the audience reception to a work can both be valuable - in addition to encouraging students to form their own opinion of a text.

What constitutes as bad literature is alarming. The "woke" or unhealthy literature of classics are now hidden in storage rooms in Florida. What is the reason? Do not ask and do not tell. Hitler burned books of Jewish writers. Florida teaches history by erasing anti-slavery classics written by black authors because their themes are deemed harmful to the innocent child who may experience psychic trauma. Why study unpleasant literature? History repeats itself.
