If Marisol had $100 in her wallet and spent $25, then she would have spent 25/100 = 1/4 which is 25% or a quarter of what she had (that's why we call quarters, which are worth 25 cents or 1/4 of a dollar, what we call them!)
Since she had $25 and spent $17, the fraction of the total amount that she spent is 17/25.
This doesn't simplify anymore as a fraction, although you'd perhaps like to know anyway that it's equal to 0.68 or 68%.
