asked 05/16/23Are you legitimate?
On the better business bureau there are reports that make this seem illegitimate. I need to talk to someone and have more information before inputting any financial information. I am hesitant to use this service because of online reviews

HI Julie
This is a legitimate website to find tutors for various subject areas.
Wyzant does not have tutors employed, rather they are a marketplace for tutors to advertise their own services.
They do not vet the quality or expertise of tutors other than one simple test per subject.
That said, they give your money back if for any reason you are not happy with your tutor, and the platform is VERY forthcoming with reviews, good and bad, of all tutors so you can see what you are getting.
Its a very legitimate service, but of coruse results vary based on student and instructor factors. However if things do not work out well, you are protected, and this comment should help you know what you are getting,
Hello, Julie,
I'm a tutor on Wyzant, so I may be biased. But I've had no problems for the 5+ years I've been tutoring. None of my students has complained about the service, other than the email system can be a little annoying. Wyzant gives the student the opportunity to reject a bill submitted by a tutor, before it is paid from your account on record. That means if I submit a bill higher than it should be, Wyzant will not charge if the student disagrees. i've never had that problem, nor have my students.
With respect to the capabilities of the tutors, Wyzant requires that tutors take a test for each subject they wish to tutor. The tests are open book, but they are timed and not easy. If a tutor made it to the point that they are authoirized to tutor a subject, I believe they are competent. If not, then complain to Wyzant. They work hard to keep a satisfied customer base.
I'm good at chemistry as well as the other sciences, math, and Photoshop. If you'd like to try Wyzant just to see how it works, request a lesson from me and I'll do a free introduction and first lesson. You'll need to enter your payment information to set that up, but it would give you a chance to see how it works. Ask for a lesson on special Excel features, Photoshop montages, the gas laws fdor chemistry, solving simultaneous equations, trigonometry, or physics, etc., and I'll do a short lesson for free.
I hope this helps,
Bob
