Is it possible there is a typo somewhere? That sequence isn't geometric or arithmetic. However, I would assume it was a geometric sequence because the numbers cycle back and forth between positive and negative.

although if you looked at just the even terms, a2,a4,a6,... they form an arithmetic sequence with common difference =d=-2
